Time: Wednesdays 3:30-4:20 PM ET (1:30-2:20 PM MT)
In-Person: Ford ES&T L1120
Instructors: Dr. Karl Lang (klang37@gatech.edu), Dr. Frances Rivera Hernandez (frh6@gatech.edu), Dr. Rafael Bras (rlbras@gatech.edu).
Format: Each week we will meet to discuss a scientific paper. This discussion will be led by a small group of participants: one or more junior members (undergraduate and graduate students) and one senior member (faculty and postdocs). The purpose of pairing junior and senior members is to foster direct conversations between scientists at different stages of their career.
Discussion leaders should organize in advance of each weekly meeting and come prepared to each meeting with: 1. a slideshow including the major figures of the paper + supplement, and 2. at least three “Big Questions” concerning the broader significance of the paper that will be used to prompt discussion.
We will be joined virtually by colleagues from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez (UPRM), the University of Colorado, Boulder (CU), and potentially others. Discussion leaders will rotate through each institution approximately every 3 weeks, with each institution hosting four seminar meetings. Seminar discussions will be recorded.
